Abstract

238,431. Mamessier, H. Nov. 28, 1924. Endless-track vehicles.-A portable-track wheel comprises radial rods a sliding in cylinders b under pneumatic or other checking action and connected by ball-joints d to shoes f having part-spherical surfaces engaging the ground either directly or through members h. The edge of the spherical face f<2> of each shoe bears against the inner cycloidal face of the side of the member h. In the construction shown each rod a is formed with a piston a' having a non-return valve a<2>, so that as the rod is pushed inwards under load air is compressed in the cylinder b. When the rod is free of load it is pushed outwards again by a spring p assisted to some extent by air pressure, while air may pass from the spring cylinder b<1> to the cylinder b through the valve a<2>. All the cylinders b communicate with each other by an annular conduit m and excessive pressure is prevented by an escape valve o. Hydraulic checking means may be provided instead of pneumatic. A single or a double row of rods and feet may be used.
