Abstract

320,970. Campbell, D. C. Aug. 1, 1928. Actuating pump by motion of vehicle wheel.- In an automatic inflation apparatus for pneumatic tyres, the pump cylinders G are rigidly attached radially to the wheel. The pistons M are connected by a rod to weights P sliding on guiderods Q. The pump cylinders are connected to the tyre valve, which may have a relief valve fitted, by means of capillary tubes. At a critical speed of the wheels, the centrifugal force on the pistons and weights causes the weights to snap past spring detents S, and the pumps deliver compressed air to the tyre valve. When the speed decreases the spring b return the weights and pistons to their original positions.
