Projectile fuzes.-A resilient or lost-motion connection is interposed between the trigger of a clockworktime fuze and the drum which releases the lever of the trigger at the appointed time, in order to render the action of the clockwork more uniform in spite of eccentric irregularities in the rotation of the drum and in spite of the friction of the trigger. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the trigger is a longitudinal spindle 1 having a cut-away portion 2 to release a centrifugal striker 3 when the spindle is rotated by the centrifugal force on a transverse lever 5 thereon, when this lever is released bv a slot 7 in the drum 8 of the clockwork. The lever 5, is made like a blade spring. Modifications are described, in which (1) the trigger spindle is arranged transversely and the blade-spring lever longitudinally; (2) the lever is rigid and connected by a coiled spring to the spindle; and (3) the lever is rigid and connected to the spindle with a certain amount of lost-motion, the centre of mass of the lever being so arranged in relation to its pivot that the centrifugal force on the lever is light so long as it bears on the drum, hut increases as it swings out after release, until, when the lost-motion is taken up, it is sufficient to overcome the friction of the trigger.
