Abstract

Lateral-splash guards which may be fixed or adapted to swivel with the wheels comprise a plate or plates c of rubber, leather, &c. of the shape shown in Fig. 2 and mounted so as to be adjusted both vertically and horizontally with respect to the wheel. As shown in Fig. 2 the plates c are adjustably mounted on a frame b by means of pins d and slots e and the frame which may be curved or straight is carried by hooks j secured to, or suspended from, the chassis or body. A brusher h is mounted so as to be as near the tyre as possible. Additional members are mounted in front of and behind the wheel. As shown in Fig. 6 the mudguard proper P is mounted on a frame F carried, by means of adjustable rods f, f<1>, by a frame C, C<1> situated on the inner side of the wheel. The frame C, C' is adapted to swivel about a rod A and is connected to the steering swivel T. A somewhat similar frame may however be situated on the outer side of the wheel' to carry the mud-guard proper. Fig. 10 shows an alternative form of mounting the plates P in the frame F, spring arms R, R<1> being provided.
