Abstract
269,684. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Jewitt, D. E. Jan. 26, 1926. Dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power. - In ship-propulsion systems having one or more motors in series with a generator automatically regulated for constant current, as in Specification 226,960, an energy absorbing resistance BR is arranged to be shunted across the generator by a polarized relay PR. The relay responds when the generator voltage has fallen to zero, and the resistance remains in shunt taking an increasing proportion of the braking current as the generator voltage is built up in the reversed direction. Curves showing the variation of braking energy under different conditions are given to illustrate the invention. For systems using turbines or other steam engines a value of resistance capable of carrying 35 per cent of the full load current is recommended. Specification 267,659 also is referred to.
