Abstract
244,137. Durtnall, W. P. June 12, 1924. Equalizing load on generator; boosting dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power.- An electric motor A, Fig. 1 is fed from a constantly running motor-generator B, C fitted with an energy-storing flywheel D for equalizing the electrical load, all three armatures being permanently connected in series in the circuit 6, 7, 9, 11. The various stages of starting, accelerating, and regenerative braking are obtained by varying the generator field J by a potentiometer controller G, which enables any required positive or negative boost to be impressed on the supply circuit 1, 5. When a battery is used as the local source, arrangements may be added for disconnecting the motor A and charging the battery from external direct-current mains; or by current taken from the machine C driven by a flywheel rotor E, which in that case forms part of an alternating current motor. In addition a turbine or other engine L may be coupled to the motor generator for work as a " mixed system."
