Abstract

27,736. Johnson, J. Y., [Electrizitõts Akt.- Ges. vorm. W. Lahmeyer & Co.]. Dec. 17. Dynamos, driving. -Relates to methods of starting the prime mover in systems of distribution having storage batteries and an auxiliary generator for charging. The auxiliary generator is connected up to the main generator, and supplies a current for starting it as a motor, thereby starting the prime mover. Fig. 1 shows one arrangement, in which the generator d is driven by a prime mover, and g denotes theauxiliary generator adapted to be driven by a motor m supplied from the battery b. At starting, the switches u, v are closed to connect the generator d with the generator g. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the low starting-pressure is obtained by introducing two electromotive forces and regulating one or both. The generators g, d are connected with a part of the battery b by throwing the switch u over to the right, and the voltage of the generator g is first made equal to that of the battery so that no current flows, and then gradually diminished until the generator g has speeded up. The dynamo g then runs as a motor, driving the motor m as a generator, and returning energy to the battery.
