Abstract

Rotary machines; gripper mechanism.- In a rotary duplicating or printing machine the sheets fed to the printing-couple are positively guided to the delivery mechanism by means of the mechanism illustrated which comprises grippers a, b carried by arms d fixed to a shaft c which is oscillated by cam-and-link mechanism comprising a cam z on the shaft W of the printing- cylinder A, and links J, and lever arms i associated with a slide Q having rollers Q' co-operating with the cam. In the sheetreceiving position of the grippers a, b, Fig. 1, these are in line with a stop c<1> carried by lever arms h<2>, and and a sheet is advanced by an automatic feed S to the stop c<1>. The gripper b is then closed on the gripper a by link mechanism y, x operated by a sleeve s loose on the shaft c and acted on by a weighted rope 2 which tends to move the sleeve s clockwise. Normally this movement is prevented by a roller n on a spring-controlled bellcrank lever n<1> engaging a notch t in a disc r integral with sleeve s. The lever n' is operated by the action of a cam m<1> on a lever l operated by a cam k integral with the cam z. As the grippers close, the stop c<1> is depressed by a cam f<1> on cylinder D acting on a roller g<1> on an arm e<1> connected to a lever d' on the shaft of the arms h<2>. The arms d and associated mechanism carry the sheet through rollers u, v, past the position shown in Fig. 3, and finally the grippers are opened to release the sheet when the roller n reengages the notch t in disc r, the movement of which is limited by stops b<1>, a<1>. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of tapes orbands fitted wth clamping devices or needles forcontrolling the sheets. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
