Abstract

791,911. Feeding sheets; gripper-mechanism. GERICKE, E. May 3, 1956 [May 21, 1955], No. 13674/56. Classes 100(1) and 100(2) In an offset printing machine, each sheet is fed from a stack of paper to the impression cylinder and is seized by a gripping mechanism disposed on the cylinder, a feeler mechanism being adapted to separate the impression and transfer cylinders if the gripping mechanism fails to seize a sheet, and means is provided whereby the feeler mechanism positively controls the gripper mechanism. A gripper 1, Fig. 1, is mounted on a shaft 2 carrying an arm 3, and is urged to sheetclamping position by a spring 10. Feeler fingers 4 on a shaft 5 move inwards under the action of a spring 11 to trip the impression cylinder if there is no sheet in the gripper. When the feeler fingers are moved outward by a stationary cam 8, a pin 7 on a lever arm 6 mounted on the shaft 5 engages the arm 6 to open the gripper. In another form, Fig. 5, the gripper 1 is mounted loosely on the shaft 9 to which the feeler fingers are hinged. The shaft 9 also carries a cam 17 spaced from the gripper 1 when the feeler fingers are closed, so that.when the latter are opened the gripper is also opened after a delay.
