Gripper mechanism; tripping-arrangements.-A cylinder printing-machine of the oscillating-cylinder type is fitted with grippers which are normally spring-closed and are adapted to be closed quickly for feed and opened quickly for delivery, by means of a pair of movable cams operated by the machine, the grippers being closed just subsequent to the moving of the cylinder to impression position. The invention is described in connection with a machine as set out in Specification 240,145, in which a reciprocating bed 15 moving in an inclined track co-operates with an oscillating cylinder 33 fitted with grippers 58 mounted on a spring- controlled shaft 59. The grippers 58 are opened to receive the sheet by a cam 61 on a ring 65 rotatable on an inner shouldered ring 66, the ring 65 being oscillated by a cam 73 acting on a lever connected by a link 68 to the ring 65. The cam 73 is mounted on a shaft 22 on which is also mounted a cam 45 which controls lever-and-link mechanism 47. 48. 51. 54 for operating eccentric bearings 43 in which the cylinder 33 is mounted. The cylinder is thrown " on " prior to the moving of the ring 65 in an anticlockwise direction to cause the grippers to close quickly on the sheet. A second cam 62 on ring 65 controls the opening of the grippers for delivery, the ring 65 being moved clockwise by the high part 75 of cam 73 to open the grippers quickly.
