Abstract

Sheet-carriers; gripper mechanism.-A laying- on mechanism for printing-machines of the kind in which sheets are taken from a feed-board by grippers 3 on oscillating arms 2 is constructed so that the grippers are carried by lever arms 14 on a shaft 13 pivoted to the arms 2. The shaft 13 is fitted with arms acted on by springs 29, and its normal position is controlled by adjustable conical-ended screws 31. After the grippers 3 have fed a sheet to the impression grippers, a fixed cam 25 acts on a roller 26 on an arm fixed to the pivot 13, and the levers 14 are moved away from the cylinder as the grippers 3 return for another sheet. The arms 2 are oscillated for this purpose by a cam 10, levers 6, and links 7, and the grippers 3 are opened to receive a sheet by a runner 19 on an arm 20 on the gripper shaft 17 and a cam 21 at one end of the impression cylinder. To deliver the fed sheet to the impression cylinder, the grippers are opened by the action of a stationary cam 28 on a runner 23 on a lever arm 24 on the gripper shaft 17. The cams 25, 28 may be connected together on a rod 34 which is reciprocated by a cam to bring the cams 25, 28 into operative positions at the correct times.
