Abstract

179,637. Evans, A. B., and Payne, R. P. Feb. 7, 1921. Tripping, throw-out, and like arrangements.- In a rotary printing-machine, the tripping- mechanism for throwing the printing-cylinders out of contact is arranged to trip the means for raising the front stops and for actuating the grippers of the feed-cylinder, so that it is impossible to feed a sheet when the printing- cylinders are tripped. As shown in Fig. 1, the front stops for the feed are mounted on a shaft d which is oscillated to raise the stops by a lever f and a cam j when the grippers k, which are operated bv a cam r, are closed to grip a sheet to the feed cylinder m which transfers the sheet to the impression cylinder z. The cams j, r are mounted on a lever s which is normally moved to its operative position shown by a cam n<1>, lever k' and a pivoted hook f<1> which engages a pin w' on the lever s. When, however, the machine is tripped by moving a lever a', the hook f<1> is operated by a lever c', rod d' and spring h<1> to disengage the lever s which is moved by a spring y to cause its arm v to engage a stop x, and in this position of the lever s, the cam j fails to operate the front stops by raising them out of contact with the cylinder m, and also the gripper k is opened after passing the sheet so that it fails to take the same.
