Abstract

289,756. Linotype & Machinery, Ltd., and Dowson, R. Feb. 16, 1927. Divided on 288,405. Inking - apparatus.- Tn a rotary machine the cylinder-tripping means is combined with means for tripping the ink-applying rollers and the messenger-supply roller either automatically or by hand. Control means are employed to enable the inkapplying means to be tripped or untripped while the messenger roller remains either tripped or operative, irrespective of whether the means are operated by hand or by the cylinder-trip mechanism. The plate cylinder 1 is inked by rollers 43 which are supplied from a distributing-roller 46 receiving its supply from a duct roller 45 by means of an oscillating messenger 44 operated by a cam 47. The rollers 43 can be raised out of action by pivoted levers 53 connected to a shaft 50 which can be oscillated from a link 49 connected to the eccentric bearings of the cylinder 2. By means of a catch 67 the shaft 50 can be. automatically operated when the cylinder 2 is tripped, or the shaft 50 can be operated solely by a hand-lever 68. In any case, the rollers 43 are tripped when the shaft 50 is moved counter-clockwise. The movement of levers 53 to trip rollers 43 can also be made to operate a catch 61 which trips the messenger roller 44. A link 55 and spring 58 tends to raise a lever arm 57 with the lever 53 and by means of a. link 59 this movement is transmitted to the catch 61. The movement of link 59 is controlled by a slotted link 71 connected to a bell-crank 72 which can be held in one of three set positions by a spring-plunger engaging recesses in the machine frame. In the position shown the link 59 is held depressed and the catch 61 can be operated to trip the messenger roller. When the plunger engages recess A the catch 61 is operated simultaneously with the lever 53 so that the rollers 43 and the roller 44 are tripped. When the plunger engages recess B, the catch 61 holds the roller 44 permanently tripped independent of the tripping of rollers 43.
