[Class 100 (ii)] Stopping - arrangements.-In a multi-colour intaglio printing-machine in which a number of printing-cylinders coact with one impression cylinder, a tripping device is provided which trips each printing-cylinder if a sheet is missing when the grippers which normally would grip such a sheet pass the printing-cylinder. The grippers 2, Fig. I, of an impression cylinder P are formed of two forked parts 2a, 2b, Fig. IV, and a feeler 5 is arranged between the forked parts and above a recess 4a formed in the gripper support 4. The feeler 5 is pivoted at 6 to the gripper 2 and is formed with a fork 7 engaged by a pin 8 on a sleeve which is fitted with a locking lever 9 and is formed with a recess engaged by a spring pawl 11 on an oscillating lever 12. If a sheet is held by the grippers, the movement of the feeler 5 is limited and the pawl 11 moves past its co-operating recess and fails to move the lever 9 into its locking position in which it engages the nose 12a of the lever 12 and limits the extent of oscillation of this lever. With the lever 12 is associated a lever 14 fitted with a roller 15 which is moved by the cylinder P past a series of levers 19, Fig. IX. When the movement of the lever 12 is not limited it permits the roller 15 to pass under the levers 19 without moving them, but if a sheet is not present the roller 15 acts on the levers 19 and the movement of each lever 19 is transmitted by linkage 21 to a lever 22 fitted with a cam curve which controls the position of an oscillating pawl 25 which is thus made to throw the printing-roller out of operative position. As shown in Fig. IX three sets of levers 19 are used for controlling three different printing- cylinders which are mounted in pivoted frames.
