[Class 100 (ii)] Inking-apparatus; damping. - apparatus.- In an offset printing-machine all the inking and damping rollers are mounted in a single separate frame which is mounted in the machine frame so as to be relatively movable thereto, the relative movement of the single separate frame being utilized for bringing about the individual movement of the damping-rollers to and from each other, and of the inking-rollers to and from each other. The frame 1 containing the inking and damping rollers is slotted to fit over a rod 3 on the machine frame, and can be rocked about the rod 3 by means of a link 4, engaging the frame at a point 8, mounted on an eccentric 5 fixed to a shaft 6 on which an operating lever 7 is attached. The damping-rollers 9 are mounted in slot bearings, and the ink duct roller 10, supplied with ink from the duct 11, and two inking-rollers 12, are mounted in ordinary bearings. Ink is transferred from the duct roller 10 to one of the rollers 12 by an oscillating roller 14, and from one roller 12 to the other by means of two axially-reciprocating rollers 16 mounted on the longer arms of bell-crank levers 17 pivoted on the frame 1 and having interengaging toothed segments 18 on their shorter arms. A tension spring 19 engaging one of the levers 17 tends to separate the rollers 16 from the rollers 12. In the position shown, all the rollers are separated from each other and from the forme cylinder 13, and the cylinder 13 is separated from the offset cylinder 21. When the operating lever 7 is turned through three small angles to lower the frame 1, the following three successive positions result. (a) The damping-roller 9 nearest the cylinder 13 makes contact therewith and with the next damping-roller 9, by reason of the slot bearings, and the lower lever 17 abuts a stop 20 on the machine frame thereby bringing the rollers 16 into contact with the rollers 12 to start initial inking ; (b) The inking-roller 12 nearest the cylinder 13 makes contact therewith, and inking of that cylinder begins ; (c) The forme cylinder 13, which is mounted eccentrically on the shaft 6, is now brought into contact with the offset cylinder 21.
