Abstract

682,842. Feeding sheets; printing-machines. BLOCK & ANDERSON, Ltd., and GERLACH, H. Sept. 27, 1947, No. 26203/47. Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii). Sheets are fed to rotary printing-machines by means of feed rollers 4, 5 intermittently driven from the printing-couple 1, 2 by means of a toothed sector 19 having a free-wheel connection with the roller 4. The invention is especially applicable to copying machines in which a mirror script hectographic impression is transferred to the printing-cylinder 1, and in which the sheets are moistened by means as described in Specification 608,785, [Group III]. The sector 19 is rocked by a reciprocating link 16 reciprocated by an oscillating lever 9 actuated by a cam 8 on the shaft of the printing-cylinder. The cam 8 engages a roller 10 on lever 9 to actuate the link 16 in one direction, and the return motion is effected by a fixed spring 11 or by the action of the cam on a roller 13 on the lever 9. The link 16 is fitted with a pin 17 adjustable in a radial slot 18 in the toothed sector 19 to vary the extent of movement of the roller 4. To adjust the pin 17 the link 16 is slotted at 25 and a pin 26 carried by an adjustable lever 27 raises or lowers the link when the lever 27 is adjusted angularly by nut-and-screw mechanism 32, 33, 34. A pointer 35 and scale 36 indicate the position of the lever 27 and the extent of oscillation of the sector 19. As an alternative adjusting arrangement, the pivot for the lever 9 may be mounted on an adjustable slide.
