Abstract

526,324. Printing-machines. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORPORATION. March 13, 1939, No. 8051. Convention date, Sept. 10, 1938. Addition to 506,692. [Class 100 (ii)] In a printing-machine as described in the parent Specification the mechanism for oscillating the rollers 35, 55 for supplying an ink repellent and ink to the forme rollers 34, 62 respectively is modified by employing cams having concentric portions which permit a dwell to be given to these rollers when in contact with a fountain roller 32 and an ink-transfer roller 54, while the operating mechanism continues to move in order to actuate the means for rotating the fountain rollers 32, 51. As in the parent Specification a lever 106, Fig. 2, effects the oscillation of the yokes 38, 59, in which the rollers 35, 55 are mounted, and the lever 106 is fitted with a cam 107 having a concentric surface 112 and a depressed nose portion which engages an adjustably mounted roller 108 carried by the yoke 38. At the commencement of the movement of the lever 106 in a counter clockwise direction the cam 107 moves the roller 35 into contact with the roller 32. The roller 108 then rides on the concentric surface 112 while the arm 106 moves further to operate the ratchet mechanism for rotating the roller 32. The lever 106 simultaneously operates via a link 130 a lever 131 pivoted to the shaft of the ink fountain roller. The lever 131 is fitted with a pawl 137 for operating the fountain roller, and the pawl 137 clicks idly over the ratchet teeth while the cam 132 first moves the roller 55 into engagement with the roller 54, and then the concentric part of it moves past the roller 135 without causing further movement of the roller 55. The pawl continues to move after the roller 55 engages roller 54. When the movement of link 130 is reversed the pawl rotates the duct roller 51, and the roller 55 returns under spring action into contact with the duct. The roller 35 is mounted in a centrally pivoted yoke 37 with capacity of easy detachment. One end of the roller is received in an aperture in the yoke, and the other end in a slot in which it is held by a pivoted clip 140. Fig. 5, normally held in position by a spring 142.
