Abstract

Inking-apparatus.-In platen printing-machines of the kind in which the inking-rollers are mounted on a carriage mcving along an endless path, a messenger roll normally contacts with a ductor roller but is caused to travel with the inking-rollers during part of their travel to supply them with ink. The ink fountain contains a ductor roller 15. A messenger roll 16 carried by arms on a shaft 18 is normally pressed against the roll 15 by a spring 17. As the carriage 7, on which the inking-rollers 6 and an axially moving distributing-roller 13 are mounted, passes the ductor roller, the roller 13 contacts with the roll 16 for at least one revolution of the roller 13. In modifications the roll 16 is guided in a straight path; is positively moved by a cam operating a lever and link; and the spring 17 is replaced by an arrangement of friction discs. When the rollers 6 move inwards to contact with the type-bed they move out of contact with the roller 13.
