Abstract
269,507. Connersville Blower Co., (Assignees of Wilkin, J. T.). April 14, 1926, [Convention date]. Movable - abutment type; driving pumps &c. - In high-speed Roots'-blowers of the type wherein the shafts of the lobed impellers 13, 14 are inter-connected by meshing gears, the impellers are given a high inertia value sufficient to maintain continuous contact of the working faces of the gear teeth at the required high speeds, the said value being high relative to the gas load torque variation. The invention is restricted to gas pumps or blowers. The teeth of the connecting gears are made flexible so as to yield circumferentially under the applied load to an extent equal to the maximum variation.. in either form or spacing, from theoretical accuracy. Thus, Fig. 4, the teeth may have radial slits 25, or the form of the tooth may be either involute or epicycloidal, ATB, Fig. 5, supported on a sub-root ABDC, which is part of a well-known paraboloidal cantilever beam CAXMYBD of uniform strength. Two or more pairs of teeth are in contact at all times.
