Toothed gearing. - In involute spur gearing, the length of the line of contact A T B on each side of the pitch point T is equal to the tooth pitch 0 P or Q R measured on the base circles, or, in other words, two teeth are always in contact, so that the couple produced by the frictional forces on the two teeth in engagement is constant.
