Abstract

To reduce noise in a pneumatic or hydraulic gear pump or motor having intermeshing gears 3, 4, Fig. 2, supported by bearing members 2, the walls of the bearing members facing the gears are formed with pairs of milled grooves 5 and 6, 7 and 8 where the gears intermesh. Such grooves being connected to the inlet of the pump or motor. The width of a pair of grooves is equal to the height of a tooth, the lengths of the grooves in a direction parallel to the tangent to the pitch circles of the gears at the point of contact is equal to twice the pitch of the gear teeth and as shown in Fig. 3, the grooves increase in depth from their ends towards mid-length.
