Abstract
268,770. I. G. Farbenindnstrie Akt.- Ges. April 1, 1926, [Convention date]. Purifying and refining.-In a process for refining iron, iron oxide, prepared from iron carbonyl is used as the refining medium. In an example iron oxide obtained by decomposition of the carbonyl, for example according to the process described in Specification 258,313, is added in the required amount of about 2-3 per cent by -weight of the charge to molten cast scrap steel having a carbon content of 0.5 per cent. After a few minutes the melt contains only 0.015 per cent of carbon.
