[Class 72] In the production of steel by the process described in the parent Specification from a pig iron containing also vanadium, an intermediate slag so rich in vanadium compounds that the vanadium can be recovered therefrom is withdrawn from the Thomas converter after carrying out the steps necessary for the recovery of such a slag, such as the burning of the silicon and the removal of the slag rich in silicate either before or after charging the converter.
