Abstract
315,829. Byers Co., A. M., (Assignees of Beale, A. H., and Aston, J.). July 19, 1928, [Convention date]. Purifying and refining.-In a process for making wrought iron as described in Specifications 170,124 and 224,941. the metal before pouring into the slag is Bessemerized until the carbon content is below 0.10 per cent, the combined silicon and carbon content is less than 0.2 per cent, and the oxygen content less than 0.31 per cent. The slag used contains a silica content of not over 15 per cent, and in an example the slag contains about 68.47 per cent FeO, 12.2 per cent Fe2O3 and 9.92 per cent SiO2. One method of preparing these slags is described in Specification 315,858. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 10583/92.
