Abstract
268,417. Procter, H. A. Jan. 30, 1926. Blowpipe, spray, and pulverulent fuel burners; gas and liquid fuel supply.-In a burner adapted for the simultaneous combustion of pulverized fuel with gaseous or atomized liquid fuel, the gaseous or liquid fuels are whirled into the stream of pulverized fuel as it is being deflected by grids or louvres prior to its discharge. The burner shown in Fig. 1 comprises a pulverized fuel delivery pipe h discharging through an adjustable pivoted cone j on to dispersing rings or plates b arranged in a casing a<4> which is surrounded by a casing a<1> having a tapered end a<2>. Air supplied to a chamber c formed on the end plate a<3> of the casing a<4> passes through valve-controlled openings a<5> into the annular chamber a<6> between the casings a', a<4> and is caused by the tapered end a<2> to converge on to the pulverized fuel as it issues from the casing a<4>. Liquid or gaseous fuel is supplied through a pipe q to a tapered cup n<1> at the end of a pipe n which is adjustably mounted in a conduit l arranged in the pipe h and is fitted with a turbine or rotor p so as to be rotated by compressed air, steam or gaseous fuel supplied through a pipe l<4> to the conduit l. Alternatively, air may be admitted through a plate valve l<2> from the pipe h to operate the rotor p. A pipe f coiled around or inside the casing a<1> may be used for preliminarily heating the liquid or gaseous fuel or for generating or superheating steam for use in the burner. The end of the pipe h or of a rotatable sleeve fitted on the pipe h may be inclined so as to deflect the issuing fuel to one side. Fig. 2 shows a modified form of the fuel dispersing cup n<1> having lateral discharge apertures n<3> in an otherwise closed end. An adjustable rim u surrounds the cup n<1>.
