Abstract

268,123. Ellis, J. V., and United Steel Cos., Ltd. March 18, 1926. Castings.-Lateral pressure is applied to the sides of an ingot before the core has solidified so as to force out the dross &c. the corners of the ingot being free. The ingot 3 is placed in a holder 2 and pressure is applied by removable cheeks 10 on levers 7 pivoted at 8 and actuated by hydraulic plungers 4. The ingot is ejected by a ram 11. If desired pressure may be applied to all four sides of the ingot. If the ingot is smaller at the top, wedge pieces of the required shape are inserted between the cheeks 10 and the ingot.
