Abstract

Castings, extracting.-Castings are extracted from sand moulds by a combination of mechanical pressure and a liquid, air, &c. blast to disintegrate the mould. A flask 2 enclosing a sand mould 3 and a casting 1 abuts against a face plate 23 while a hydraulic ram urges forward the casting, and compressed air &c. is forced through nozzles 4 by means of a tube 19 communicating with the ram cylinder 17. A modification is described for flasks supported in a vertical position, in which a cable exerting an upward pull replaces the hydraulic ram.
