Abstract
532,181. Casting-machines. BIRMINGHAM ALUMINIUM CASTING (1903) CO., Ltd., and PRITCHARD, P. Aug. 19, 1939, No. 23941. [Class 83 (i)] Moulds; extracting castings; casting processes. -Casting apparatus comprises a melting pot 23, means for moving a die or mould part 21 from a position, shown in Fig. 1, in which it can be inspected, have the casting removed and cores fitted &c. to a position, shown in Fig. 3, accurately located over the pot and other means for holding the die part 21 and pot 23 in tight contact while molten metal is forced into the die by fluid pressure supplied at 42. The die part 21 is mounted on a plate 9 carried by a pivoted arm 6 operated by a piston 5, a second pivoted arm 11 causing the die part to be inverted as it is moved from one position to another. The pot may carry a lower die part 22 and is carried by a plunger 2 which then presses it up against the die part 21, the three parts being locked together by air operated bolts 39. After casting, a pin 37, Fig. 3, supporting a sand core 28, is removed and fluid operated ejectors 20 are brought into action to separate the casting and die part 22 from the part 21 forcing the former down with the pot 23, against the action of the plunger 2. In some cases this may be done after the upper part of the casting has set but before the lower part has. The die part 21 is then returned to its original position.
