Abstract

267,212. Dadge, B. N. Dec. 9, 1925. Compressed-air engines. - A shaker conveyer is driven by a compressed-air engine E which is operated by an electrically-driven pulsator P which acts through gearing m, k. The pulsator cylinders P, P<1> have pistons p<1>, p<2> connected to opposed cranks on a shaft K. The engine cylinder has a trunk piston e<3>, e<4> adjustably connected to a lever e<8> operating the conveyer. The cylinders P<1>, P<2> are connected to the ends of the cylinder E as shown. The piston p<2> is of two diameter and acts as a pump to draw in atmospheric air and force it past a valve r into a receiver R which through spring-held, non-return valves r', r<2> supply the cylinders P<1>, P<2> when the ports s<1>, s<2> are opened and the pressure is sufficient. The pressure in the closed circuits between the cylinder ends is thereby raised and maintained. The outward strokes of the engine piston are more rapid than the inward strokes. The pistons p', p<2> may be replaced by a single, differential piston.
