Abstract
266,523. Creese, W. Feb. 3, 1926. Lasts.-A two-part hinged last is fitted, for locking it in the straightened condition, with a spring pin, cotter pin, bolt, or similar devicefitted in one part and entering a socket in the other part, and so constructed that it is prevented from complete withdrawal but can be retained in the inoperative position, leaving the operator both hands free for bending the last. In one form, a bolt 1, co-operating with a metal-lined socket 12 in the fore part, is slidable in a sleeve 3 mounted in the heel part. The bolt is urged to operative position by a spring, but can be retracted by a ring 9 and turned so that a pin 5 on the bolt is held by a bayonet slot 4. The division between the two parts of the last comprises a curve 22, an abutment 23 and a straight portion 24. In a modification, the pin 5 engages an incline at the top of the heel part, and slips off under the shock when the last is straightened. The locking means may comprise a cotter pin 15. slidable longitudinally with some friction, and provided with a collar or washer 18 to prevent complete withdrawal.
