Abstract
265,962. Bachmann, C., and Kraft, R., (trading as Scheidt & Bachmann), Feb. 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Electric operation. - In electrically-operated railway points, wherein a reversible motor 1 drives a drum 5, Figs. 1 and 3, by gearing 2 - - 4, the expanding friction ring 6 is applied to the drum by a U-shaped leaf spring 7 with sufficient force to break a frangible connection in the operating-rod when movement of the points is obstructed, and hence actuate the motor cut-off. The driven disc 8, carrying the operating-pinion (not shown), is driven by the contact of the spring 7 with a lug 10 or 11, according to the direction of rotation. After the motor circuit has been broken, the parts are brought to rest by engagement of a lug 12 on the disc 8 with an initially-stressed U-shaped spring stop 14, normally bearing on fixed lugs 15. When either limb contacts with a central lug 15<1>, residual momentum of the motor is absorbed by slip of the coupling. Fig. 4 shows a modification wherein the friction ring is omitted, the driving- spring carrying blade springs 16, 17 normally pressing against lugs 19, 20, one spring drivably engaging a lug 10 or 11 on the driven disc 8, which carries a stop lug 12 as before. Momentum is absorbed by yielding of the engaged spring.
