Abstract

265,231. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Palueff, K K.). Jan. 29, 1926, [Convention date]. Regulating transformers.-A variable ratio auto transformer arranged to control the flow of energy between two transmission systems is provided with heavily insulated end turns and with a slightly reactive winding between the tapping switch and the line as protection against high frequency disturbances of high voltage. The main winding comprises disc coils 12 arranged on a shell type core 10 and so interleaved as to reduce reactance. The lines 13, 14 of one system are connected to the ends of the main winding, and the lines 15, 16 are connected to one end of the main winding and through the protective winding 20 to the tapping switch 19. In order to reduce the reactance of the protective winding to a negligible amount with regard to the normal operating frequency although sufficient to afford the desired protection against high frequency disturbances, part of the turns of this winding are reversed with respect to the remainder. The turns of the protective winding are protected by heavy insulation.
