Abstract
262,722. Norske Aktieselskab for Elektrokemisk Industri. Dec. 9, 1925, [Convention date]. Furnace details. - Current is supplied to a self-baking furnace electrode 1 by contacts 2 projecting into the sides of the electrode near its working end, the contacts or the connections 4 thereto being moved upwards, as the electrode is consumed. The contacts may be screwed and/or tapered, may be in two parts as shown in Fig. 4, mav be hollow for cooling to facilitate removal, and may be made of iron, graphite, or copper coated with iron. Carbon or graphite members 6, adapted to receive the contacts may be embedded in the electrode mass. If the electrode is to be used in a furnace for the electrolytic production of aluminium the graphite insertions may be replaced by aluminium tubes. When the contacts are removed the hole in the electrode is plugged with suitable material. Specification 227,820 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3 (a) mentions the application to ordinary carbon or graphite electrodes. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
