Gases, supplying; cooling.- In an electrically - heated annealing furnace in which the materials are heated in an atmosphere of hydrogen, the steam formed during the annealing process is condensed in a space beneath the annealing-chamber and in direct communication therewith. In the construction shown, a cooling-coil 7 is mounted in the bottom of the furnace and any condensed water is drawn off through pipes 8, 9. In another form, cooling-coils are arranged beneath the bottom of the furnace.
