Induction furnaces.-In a process for heating or melting metals or alloys in an induction furnace of the ironless type, the material is subjected to a preliminary treatment to increase its conductivity, with a view to enabling the heating to be carried out by means of currents of low frequency. The preliminary treatment may be chemical or electrolytic or both, or, in the case of very finely divided material, may be mechanical pressure.
