Abstract

Starting.-An ignition magneto E is driven from the engine at starting through a clutch B, C brought into engagement by the pressure of compressed air or gas supplied to the engine cylinders. The member C of the clutch is carried by a sleeve S sliding in a cylinder D connected at J to the compressed-air conduit. The member C is provided with gear teeth engaging a pinion F on the shaft of the magneto E, and is normally held out of engagement with the member B by a spring G interposed between the removable end U of the sleeve S and a piston bearing against a projection H on the member B. Compressed air or gas is supplied to the cylinder D, and to a distributing valve on the engine cam-shaft, from a receiver or an engine-driven pump, preferably through a three-way cock used to connect the cylinder D to the atmosphere when starting has been effected.
