Abstract
262,167. Ryder, F., and Pluperfect Refrigeration Co., Ltd. Aug. 22, 1925. Valves, arrangement of. - Axial passages are formed in the cylinder head. and a ball valve is fitted in each passage, the seating of which is close to the inside face of the head so that substantially the whole of the passage wav is cut off from the cylinder when the valve closes at the end of the compression stroke. Fig. 1 shows a compressor with a head B forming with a cover b<1> a valve box held in place by a spring C which yields in case of excessive pressure, allowing air to escape past the seating b<2>. Screwed holes are formed in the head to receive sleeves e', each sleeve containing a ball valve F pressed on to a seating e<2> by a spring-pressed plate h<1>. Outlet ports e5 are formed in the sleeves, and stoppers G are provided, the lower ends of which limit the movement of the balls. Fig. 2 shows a modification in the sleeves are dispensed with, the stoppers G<1> being carried in screwed holes in a ring K holted to the head. The plate h<1> may be replaced by a short sleeve sliding on a portion of the stopper. The balls may project beyond the face of the cylinder head. According to the Provisional Specification, mushroom valves may be used.
