Abstract

Holders.-To prevent the unauthorised removal of bulbs from miners' safety lamps to obtain current from the battery for extraneous purposes, an automatic shutter is provided in the bulb-holder that prevents the replacement of a bulb once removed, and thereby diecloses misuse of the lamp The shutter is mounted in a casing f, which is located in the bulb-holder so that the cap of the bulb c, must be passed through apertures f<4> f<3> in the casing to reach the contact e<1>. The two superposed leaves h, k of the shutter are pivoted at f<2>, f<3> and are held by the bulb in the position shown in Fig. 4, but when the bulb is removed springs h<1>, k<1> close the leaves over the apertures f<4>, f<5>, and the leaves interlock so that they can only be withdrawn by an electromagnet.
