Abstract
309,721. Ceag, Ltd., and Plummer, R. J. March 28, 1928. Battery lamps; cut-out arrangements. - A safety lamp for use in explosive atmospheres comprises a battery casing 1 having a rocking head 7 for switching purposes and means for locking this -against unauthorized removal, the parts being arranged so that the battery can be removed without disconnecting the bulb 11 and its associated parts. In the construction shown the bulb and the reflector 22 are mounted in a casing 12 arranged on the side of the lamp, the centre contact of the bulb being connected to one battery terminal through insulated metal strips 25 &c. and rivets 17 and a resilient contact 15 adapted to be engaged by a contact 6a attached to one of the plate contacts 6 in the rocking head 7. A cover 24 prevents exposure of the conductors. A cut-out is provided which operates upon breakage of the bulb 11 or of the glass 13. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a spring 30 holds the bulb in engagement with the resilient contact 25 which, if the glass or the bulb be broken, projects the bulb from its seat in the reflector with which it contacts to short-circuit the battery and blow a fuse. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the bulb is held in its seat by a frame 31 pivoted at 32 to the " earthed " casing 12 and controlled by a spring 35. If the bulb 11 breaks, the frame is rocked and an arm 36 engages the contact 25 to short-circuit the battery.
