Abstract
260,364. Charles, J. L., and Charles, A. E. Aug. 8, 1925. Generating combustion products under pressure.-A combustion product turbine is supplied by one or more combustion units each comprising a cylinder with a combustion space at each end and a double acting piston 10 therein and a pair of compression cylinders 13 the pistons 12 of which are rigidly connected to the combustion cylinder piston 10. The charge enters the compression cylinders 13 by inlets 14 and passes through ports 16 to the combustion cylinder when these are opened by the reduced portions 11 of the piston rod 9. The combustion piston 10 acts as a valve to release the combustion products to the turbine which in their passage may draw in by injector action air or steam generated in a water container 3 which houses the combustion units. The firing of the plugs 15 is controlled by the compression pistons 12 acting on an adjustable spring-pressed pin 23 to close the electrical circuit. At starting cornpressed air admitted at ports 20 operates the pistons 12 and mixture is admitted through a port 17 to the combustion cylinder 10.
