Fire-extinguishing by gases or solutions; sprinkling-apparatus, non-automatic; structures modified for fire-extinguishing. - A method of extinguishing fires in tanks of inflammable liquids consists in introducing an extinguishing medium into the path of the air flowing in at the periphery of the tank so that the medium is carried downwardly by the current of air. In the apparatus shown, a medium such as carbontetrachloride is supplied from a receiver e to a pipe c arranged round the upper part of the tank a. From the pipe c jet-pipes b enter the tank and are bent back to deliver a jet towards the wall of the tank. The jets preferably overlap, each jet-pipe being slotted or terminating in several nozzles. The pipe c might be arranged inside the tank. In a modification, a metal ring is arranged in the upper part of the tank to define an annular open-ended chamber enclosing the jet-pipes.
