Fire-extinguishing by foam.-An apparatus for forming foam by adding foam chemicals to a stream of water comprises a hopper a from which the chemicals pass by a valve b to a pipe e. Around the lower part of the latter is an annular pipe f supplied with water under pressure by a pipe c and formed with jetnozzles g arranged obliquely so that jets of water i, intersecting at different levels, sweep the whole area. of the pipe e, or its continuation h, taking up the chemicals as they fall from the hopper and forming foam. The latter passes direct to the foam delivery conduit, or may pass first to a combined mixing chamber and air vessel.
