Mountings.-In gun-training gear, reaction upon the driving-means is prevented by the use of gearing comprising a worm and wheel arranged in parallel with the main driving gearing between the motor or the band driving the apparatus and tile driven member. The gun carriage b carries a toothed ring c engaged bv a spur wheel d on a shaft e which carries a wheel f, driven by a wheel h on the driving shaft i, and a worm wheel g engaged by a worm q on a shaft o driven by multiplying gearing m, n from the shaft i. In order to ensure that the worm q maintains such close engagement with the worm wheel g as effectively to prevent reaction on the shaft i when the driven member reverses, a spring coupling p, or a slipping frictional gear tending to cause over-driving of the worm, is inserted in the shaft o and a lost motion coupling k in the shaft i. Overrunning of the driven member brings the worm wheel against the opposite face of the worm and locks the parts before the lost motion in the coupling has been taken up. The coupling k is preferably such as to release automatically and transmit no power when the speed or the torque exceeds certain limits. The spring and lost-motion couplings may be interchanged.
