Battery lamps; cut-out arrangements.-In miners' safety lamps as described in the parent Specification, wherein a plate 1 of insulating material closing the battery casing is provided with a recess 2 containing a flexible diaphragm, which is in electric contact with the bulbholder 9 and is adapted to complete, the lamp circuit with a contact 8 when air is compressed within the glass cover 12, the combined valve and inflating-nozzle 10 is located in the axis of the bulb-holder and serves additionally as a bolt for securing the bulb-holder to the plate 1 and as an electric conductor between the contact plate 6 and the centre contact of the bulb-holder. To enable, the compressed air to be released automatically, if fire-damp be present, a tube 19 projecting from the glass 12 is closed by an easily-fusible seal close to which a ball 18 of spongy platinum is mounted on wires projecting from the seal. The platinum is placed at the centre of a spherical reflector arranged, so that fire-damp can accumulate, in it, and the reflector is enclosed in a heat-insulating packing 21.
