Abstract

1427138 Electric battery lamps R B W LOWNDES 31 May 1973 [2 March 1972] 9671/72 Heading F4R A battery operated lamp comprises a light unit 5, preferably of the sealed-beam type, secured at the open end of a casing 1, the casing containing a battery 2 prevented from making direct physical contact with the lamp unit. A pad 14 of resilient material and a sheet 16 of insulating material may be interposed between the battery and the lamp unit, electrical contact being by wires 17, 19, 20 and switch 10. The lamp unit is encircled by a resilient collar 6, secured to the casing by a steel band 8, a metal band 11 being secured about the plastics casing to form a handle. In another embodiment the pad may be cupshaped and include a flange held between the collar and casing. The lamp unit may alternatively be a gas discharge lamp. In an alternative embodiment the battery may be held by spring clips secured to the casing. The lamp may be used as a floating beacon, the unit being optionally supported in gimbals and the switch being operated by the water pressure or temperature.
