Abstract
614,754. Thermal switches. NEONELECTRIC CO., Ltd.; and MORGAN, R. J. B. July 25, 1946, No. 22220. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XL (a)] A glow switch for starting electric discharge lamps, Fig. 3 (not shown) has an M-shaped bimetallic strip 10 having one limb 9 welded to a stiff nickel wire 7 and the other limb 11 to which may be welded a contact rod 12, spaced approximately 1 mm. from a further stiff wire 8. Both wires are supported in a re-entrant pinch 6 of a glass envelope 4, which may be metallized by spraying or by covering with foil or sheet metal, and filled with neon or a mixture of neon and hydrogen at a pressure of 25 to 40 mm.
