258,638. Atkins, B. S., and Elwood, A. L. June 18, 1925. Printing - surfaces. - Printing-surfaces are formed partly or wholly of rubber or other flexible material 1 mounted on a flexible backing 2 which serves as the means for securing the printing- element to the printing-drum or in the forme. Preferably the backing is a flexible metal sheet such as lead. Allowances for distortion of the printing-characters due to stretching in curving the printing-element to fit the drum may be made during manufacture. The printing-element may be used in combination with a stereotype or other printing-surface. In a modification, suitable for use in a flat-bed printing-machine, the backing may be rigid. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 5517/07.
