Abstract

257,803. Warr, A. W., and Cormier, A. J. Dec. 31, 1925. Pistons; packing.-A pump piston comprises a conical element 8 fixed on the end of the pistonrod 5, a sleeve 11 rotatably mounted on the rod, an axially movable conical piston element 14 on a threaded part of the sleeve, a packing ring 22 secured between the piston elements, and a number of wedge members 16, which are moved radially outwards to expand the ring 22 when the piston element 14 is moved towards the element 8 by turning the sleeve 11 on the rod. The sleeve is locked in the adjusted position by a nut 12 abutting on the pump crosshead. The members 16 engage the elements 8, 14 by means of keys 20.
