Casting walls in situ.-Apparatus for casting concrete walls comprises a plurality of inner and outer shuttering units, of which the outer units consist of shutters secured to a frame 12, Fig. 3, adapted to be detachably secured to the inner units, and means extending above the outer units are provided for positioning them with relation to the inner units. The inner units 3, 4, which consist of uprights 5 and shuttering 6, are squared by U-shaped corner rods 8 engaging eyes 9 in waling 7, as in Fig. 5, and are secured together by corner irons 10 engaging eyes 11. The units 3 are used for the lowest course and the units 4 are erected above them and serve as supports for the units 3 after the latter have been removed from their first position. The outer units consist of sheet-iron plates 14 carried by stiffeners 13 on frames 12, which are connected by tie-bars 15 to the uprights 5. The tie-bar and upright 5 may be connected by a pin 16 engaging the upright and passing through a hole in the bar 15, in which position it is locked by a pin 17, or the connection may be by means of a bar bent over at each end. The frame 12 is raised by a hoisting tackle and is provided with an extension 26 carrying a timber member 27 which bears against the portion of the wall previously cast and prevents distortion. Door and window frames are formed by boards 24 fitted on steel pins, and tapering plugs a:re inserted on pins for forming recesses for joists. The units 3 may consist of corner sections 29 and middle sections 30, as shown in Fig. 8, the sections being connected by pegs 31. The units 4' may be of a length corresponding to the length of a wall, but one side may be formed in two parts to facilitate dismantling.
