Abstract

256,820. Du Be, R. E. Oct. 20, 1925. Four-stroke-cycle engines; crank chambers and frames; driving-gear.-In a horizontal cylinder engine oppositely moving pistons 16, 29 drive the crank shaft 9 through rock levers 20, 33, links and cranks, the levers being off-set to allow connection to the cranks at 180‹. The cylinder is supported or cast integral with cross-cradles 12 formed on pairs of standards 2, 3; these standards are stiffened by pieces 13 and connected by arc-shaped pieces 8 in which the crank- and cam-shafts are journaled. A casing 75 encloses the engine, cover plates 76 shaped to conform to the contour of the cylinder closing the ends of the casing. The valves are carried in a block 45 bolted to the cylinder over the common combustion chamber 40.
